Get ’em out there early

We took our older son on his first backpacking trip when he was just 3 years old.  He did not carry a pack (had you worried for a second, eh?) but he did hike the last few miles of the trail for our two night stay at Fern Lake, outside of June Lake Village in the Eastern Sierra.

We’ve come a long way since then.  We have two boys, ages 9 and 11, and we have learned a few things along the trail.  Here are some helpful tips on surviving, and enjoying, backpacking adventures with your kids.
